Tool Making Workshop

Instructor will have materials and tools available to create
the following projects:
- Stamping/Chasing metal tools
- Viking stamped arm bands
- Glass on copper enameling
- Pewter casting
- Soapstone mold carving
New project  Anglo-Saxon Annular brooches
Materials fees depend on specific projects, ranging from $2-5 for armbands, pewter casting and/or enamel piece, $7 for each soapstone block, $5-25 for tools depending on size of metal stock.
Note that this is a drop-in/step-out open workshop. We will discuss your particular project(s) and estimate the time commitment needed to complete your goal(s).

Band Weaving

Interested in inkle?  Curious about cards?  You can turn trash into treasure and start weaving bands without breaking the bank!  During this hour of come and go, try your hand at one of four weaving set ups: backstrap weaving with rigid heddle or cards/tablets, and loom weaving with string heddles or cards/tablets. The looms weren't cheap, but the backstrap setups are made of random objects from around the house.  Plus, leave with a template to make your own weaving cards!

Sacrificial Cooking

Divination w/ Molten Metal

Drop in and learn about the history and various uses Bleigießen, a Germanic form of molybdomancy.  Bleigießen literally translates to “lead pouring,” a type of  divination from molten metal, originally lead. (Now we use tin to avoid health risks.) The practice requires an individual to melt a portion of metal in a spoon or crucible and then pour it into cold water. You then interpret the shape that is formed to predict the future!
